IKARUS, Aylin Kayser & Christian Metzner

IKARUS – a symbolic victim. Electricity is something endless, ordinary, invisible and precious, which needs to be visualized. The lamp, which we have developed, acts as a metaphoric materialization of electricity. The cone-shaped lamp IKARUS is made of 98% wax and an internally and externally located construction and a steel cable, which holds and stabilizes the lamp. A light is centrally situated inside the lamp and causes the wax to melt, so that over the course of time the lampshade will liquefy from the inside to the outside and will reform itself on the surface below. Ikarus melts away and as a result changes into a critical symbol.
